Whether you are a true beginner or a designer who is working on a clothing line or a potential college student, this is the class for you. Lauren is a local fashion designer who graduated from Parson’s New School of Design in NYC. She knows how this industry works and what it takes to get your product into stores. She will share her experiences and the steps designers take to do this. She will take you to your next level and help refine the looks you love and how best to show them to your audience. Wed. Apr. 9/ 5:30-7:00 Begin with a intro to fashion sketching. Learn about the creation of a mood board as well as creating a client profile and who you are marketing to. After learning all the details create a mood board out of images that inspire you to then sketch 10 fashion figures.

Wed. Apr. 16/ 5:30-7:00 Review your homework and begin to learn about the basic of sketching 2. Sketching 2 includes learning how to show movement and place your fashion figure in different poses. As you learn to create these fashion figures we will also practice  finding a cohesive style to your figures. In this class we will also review fabric swatches and which materials will work best for your designs.

Wed. April 23/ 5:30-7:00 Learn the style of fashion sketching called flat patterns. Learn how to draw different lines to represent stitches and seams. We will also learn about other class members designs and narrow down the sketches to 3 or 4. For homework finalize your sketches with color for the presentation next class.

Wed. April  30/ 5:30-7:30  Compile your portfolio for a presentation to parents and class at 7:00PM

Lounge Pants-Kids come Free : Level 1 ages 11-Adult

In this class you or a parent/child team will fit a pattern and make a pair of pull on pants. The adult/child teams will make the child’s pants together. Adults by themselves will make their own pant.
Buy Simplicity 1520 pattern and fabrics and threads for each kid or adult. Prewash, dry and iron fabrics before class. Pick up your pizza slices and drink (est. each $5) at Lefty’s across the street and enjoy sewing and dinner. All students receive 10% off on lovely fabrics at Elfriede’s Fine Fabrics, just mention you are in our classes.

Springtime Wardrobe: Level 2

Using New Look 6217 make a collection to fit perfectly. Choose silky or knit fabrics, prewash, dry and iron them. In class get help to fit your pattern, lay out and cut your items and make it using different finishing skills for each item. Homework will be necessary to be able to finish all projects for a low class cost. Each student will make each piece together in each class. It is our belief that students bound for fashion schools need to learn to sew before they go. This course will teach you how to use a pattern and then you can design from these easy pieces on your own to create all new items of your own designs. All students receive 10% off on lovely fabrics at Elfriede’s Fine Fabrics, just mention you are in our classes.

Boot Holders: Level 2

Tired of seeing your lovely tall boots crumpled in your closet all summer? Make these inventive “boot holders” and never worry again! And what a lovely gift they will make for your friends. Material list: 1 yard of cotton fabric 45 inches wide, thread to match. We provide the materials of batting and inside stiffening to keep your boots upright in the closet all summer.

The Essential Pant: Level 3

This is a pattern making class to make custom pants draped to your body using the JSM Pant fitting system. In the first session you will be fitted for pants. Then Karen will than draft your pattern, in the next 3 classes you will learn professional techniques to making your pants. Kit fee is $75.00 and includes personal custom pattern, instruction book, and interfacing. Supply list will be discussed at first class. Homework will be necessary between each class to finish pants.

Private Classes: (12-Adult)

Do you  prefer personal instruction? Schedule a private class for your own project. Let us know what your project is and we will find the right instructor. Serger, sewing machine know how classes, quilting, dressmaking, home, tailoring, alterations, design you own gown are some of the subjects our teachers can offer you. Classes need to be scheduled two weeks in advance. $75/hr. Two hours minimum required for teacher to make time and travel for this. Please call the studio for this option. 303-652-0532
